Coast Guar Cutter Harriet Lane Returning from Deployment

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The 270-foot Coast Guard Cutter Harriet Lane, homeported here, will return Tuesday from a 58-day Caribbean patrol where crewmembers conducted homeland security, counter narcotic operations and migrant interdiction.

Harriet Lane crewmembers conducted eight law enforcement boardings, two search and rescue cases and interdicted 29 migrants from the Dominican Republic.

Crewmembers located a fishing vessel May 29 with four Colombian nationals who were adrift with an inoperable engine and sinking. They had gone without food and water for three days. Harriet Lane crewmembers rescued the migrants shortly before the vessel sank.

The crew of the Harriet Lane is preparing for a change of command ceremony to be held July 17 at the Coast Guard Integrated Support Command here.
