Cape Cod Rescue Crews to be Recognized

BOSTON — The commander of the First Coast Guard District is scheduled to recognize rescue crews from Air Station Cape Cod, Wed., April 14, at the air station for their assistance in numerous search and rescue cases that have occurred throughout New England over the past three years.

Rear Adm. Joseph Nimmich will present a Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation award to air station personnel, recognizing their efforts in 545 search and rescue cases where air crews conducted 643 airborne searches, helping 142 people and saving 87 lives.

Air Station Cape Cod crews responded to a variety of cases over the past few years including: aerial shoreline searches, airlifts of patients in need of medical treatment, and several cases hundreds miles off shore to help sailing and fishing crews in distress.
