Air Station Kodiak medevacs man from the Alaskan Packer

KODIAK, Alaska – A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk aircrew conducted a medevac of a 24-year-old crewman from the 338-foot tender Alaska Packer in Togiak Bay 300 miles northwest of Kodiak Friday.

Brian Scarllila, a Filipino national, reportedly suffered injuries to his shoulder, neck, left wrist and possibly his back resulting from a fall of about 10 feet into a hold aboard the cargo vessel Marianne. Scarillila was transferred to the Alaska Packer to see the on board paramedic.The vessel’s agent contacted the Coast Guard District 17 command center watchstanders at 9:12 a.m. requesting a medevac.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and crew were launched from Kodiak and arrived on scene at 1 p.m. The rescue helicopter crew successfully hoisted the patient and delivered him safely to Dillingham, about 180 miles from Togiak Bay, at 2:10 p.m. for further medical treatment at the clinic there.

Weather in the area was reportedly clear with light winds from the north and no measureable swell or waves.
