Air Station Clearwater medevacs patient from cruise ship

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The U.S. Coast Guard medically evacuated a woman suffering from internal injuries aboard a cruise ship approximately 115 miles west of Marco Island, Fla., on Sunday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, in St. Petersburg, Fla., recieved notification from the 855-foot Carnival Inspiration cruise ship at 2:49 a.m., that Peggy White, 63, was suffering from internal bleeding. After consulting with a Coast Guard flight surgeon, Sector watchstanders directed the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater H60 Jayhawk Helicopter crew at 6:45 a.m.

The Jayhawk crew arrived on scene and safely hoisted White from the ship in a rescue basket and transported her to Tampa General Hospital at approximately 8:00 a.m.

White’s condition was stable.
