64-year-old man medevaced by Coast Guard near Crystal River, Fla.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A 64-year-old man was medically evactuated from the 40-foot commercial fishing vessel St. Philip, by the Coast Guard approximately 15 miles southwest of Crystal River, Thursday.

A crewmember aboard the St. Philip contacted Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders at 10:12 a.m., via VHF-FM channel 16 radio reporting he was suffering from chest pains and in need of medical assistance.

Watchstanders launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Clearwater. The crew arrived on scene at 11:37 a.m., hoisted the man off the fishing vessel and transported him to Tampa General Hospital in stable condition.

“Thanks to the readiness of the flight crew we were able to get him medical attention in less than two hours from the initial call,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Adrian Diaz, search and rescue coordinator at the sector.
