56-year-old man rescued by Coast Guard near Fort Myers, Fla.

FORT MYERS, Fla. — A 56-year-old man was medically evacuated by Coast Guard helicopter crewmembers after suffering breathing difficulties aboard the 548-foot motor vessel Sol Do Brasil, 75 miles south of here Monday.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Seventh District command center in Miami contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg at 2:40 a.m., regarding the man who was reported to have breathing difficulties due to acute asthma symptoms and needed medical attention.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater was launched at 4:12 a.m.

The Jayhawk crew arrived on scene at 4:58 a.m., hoisted the man and transported him to Tampa General Hospital in stable condition.
