COMPTON, Calif. — Coast Guard members from Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach volunteered at Viva Technology, an outreach event held at Dominguez High School in Compton, Calif., May 17, 2011.

The Coast Guard-sponsored outreach event is designed to expose students to various practical applications of science, math, and technology, as well as introduce them to opportunities within the Coast Guard.

The event gave 100 students the opportunity to learn and compete in various technology-based tasks, such as constructing telegraph machines.

This is the second Viva Technology event the Coast Guard has sponsored, the first being held in Cleveland, Ohio in 2010.
