CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla — Two people aboard an 18-foot boat taking on water were rescued by a good Samaritan and a Coast Guard crew at the entrance of Crystal River, Wednesday night.

A family member from shore contacted the Coast Guard at 8:35 p.m., reporting the 18-foot boat was taking on water and not able to keep up with pumps. A good Samaritan aboard the fishing vessel JC arrived on scene and began to assist.

A 29-foot Response Boat from Coast Guard Station Yankeetown, Florida arrived on scene, controlled the flooding and put the vessel in tow. They were transported to Half-Way boat ramp in Crystal River.

“The Coast Guard wants to remind boaters to check the weather before they go out on the water,” said Seaman David Micallef, a crewmember at the station. “Weather can deteriorate quickly and put boaters in danger.”
