2 people rescued by Coast Guard near Sunshine Skyway Bridge

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Two people were rescued from Coast Guard crewmembers approximately one mile east of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge after their 19-foot boat they were aboard began taking on water Thursday.

Members of Sea Tow contacted Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders at 4:47 p.m., reporting the boat was taking on water near the center span of the bridge, and the people aboard were in need of assistance.

A 25-foot Response Boat — Small crew from Coast Guard Station St. Petersburg arrived on scene and was able to control the flooding. They placed the boat in tow and transported them to Demen’s Landing Marina in St. Petersburg.

No injuries were reported.
