2 dead, 1 missing after boat capsizes off coast of Atlantic City, N.J.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Two boaters are deceased and one remains missing as Coast Guard crews continue searching today after the boat they were on capsized about five miles off the coast of Atlantic City.

Names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The Coast Guard received a call from a friend of the fishermen at about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday who reported the three men had not returned from a fishing trip.

The Coast Guard launched several units to begin searching for the three men. At about 1:10 a.m. today, a Coast Guard rescue helicopter crew discovered the overturned 25-foot boat about fives miles off the coast of Atlantic City. Two of the fishermen were discovered at the scene and declared deceased by a medical examiner.

Searching for the remaining missing fisherman include:

  • A C-130 Hercules airplane crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C.
  • An HH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City
  • A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light, N.J.
  • A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Atlantic City
  • The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Finback, homeported in Cape May, N.J.
  • A boat crew from Sea Tow Services International
  • A boat crew from TowBoat U.S.
  • A boat crew from the New Jersey State Police Marine Services Bureau
